Released at the end of 1977, Jackson Browne’s Running On Empty was an unusual recording: It featured brand-new material recorded in the live arena plus a smattering of coverings tracked either on Browne’s tour bus or in hotel rooms. The rough, experimental approach led to one of the singer-songwriter’s most beloved albums. We’ll hear music from it as well as selections from Silk Degrees, the 1976 effort from Boz Scaggs.

Thursday, April 26

We’ll hear music from The Cure’s 1989 album Disintegration plus music from The Church’s 1988 release, Starfish.

Friday, April 27

Resistance Is Futile is the latest album from Welsh band Manic Street Preachers. We’ll hear music from that recording as well as selections from Second Coming, the 1994 release by The Stone Roses.

Saturday, April 28

Locate S,1 is the new project from singer-songwriter Christina Schneider. Recorded with help from members of the Athens, Georgia band, Of Montreal, the project appeals to a broad range of musical sensibilities while losing none of Schneider’s sense of adventure. Listen to music from that recording as well as selections from Of Montreal’s 2007 disc, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?

Monday, April 30
