Prosecutors Seek To Detain Three Kansas Men Accused In Terrorism Plot

Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office
Gavin Wright, Curtis Allen and Patrick Stein are each charged with conspiring to detonate a homemade explosive at an apartment complex where Muslim immigrants from Somalia live.

New details have been released in the case involving three southwest Kansas men accused of plotting to attack Somali immigrants in Garden City. As KMUWs Nadya Faulx reports, two of the men are set to appear in court Friday for detention hearings.

Federal prosecutors filed a motion to keep Curtis Allen, Gavin Wright and Patrick Stein in custody during their trials.

The three men are charged with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction. They allegedly wanted to use a homemade explosive device to bomb an apartment complex where many Somali Muslims live and pray.

Officials found close to a metric ton of ammunition at Allen’s residence at the time of his arrest earlier this month on an unrelated domestic violence charge. He also possessed materials for and instructions on how to make explosives.

The FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office say the three men would be a “significant” danger to their community if released. They also say Curtis Allen also poses a flight risk.
