The City of Wichita says it has its resources ready for whenever the area gets its first snow which is forecasted to hit Wednesday.
Public Works and Utilities Director Alan King says the city has been gearing up for inclement weather.
“Staff’s been busy preparing for the upcoming winter season,” he said at the weekly mayor briefing Thursday.
The city has 61 plow trucks and more than 200 employees trained to keep the streets clean.
“For our new employees that have been with the city for two years or less, we’ve been putting them through formal training, how to drive snow plow, and that sort of thing," King said.
The city’s snow route includes a total of 1800 miles of lanes to plow—1500 miles are primary emergency routes, and 300 are secondary and school access routes.
After experiencing shortages in the past, King says the city is fully stocked on salt and sand for ice removal, with 7500 tons of a salt-sand mix and 8,000 more tons of pure salt.
